Jackson Tool Office Break Room / Conference Options

Existing break/conference room is old and consists of older wooden paneled walls, acoustic ceiling tile, broadloom carpet, cabinetry, stove, refrigerator, sofa, conference table and ten chairs. The entry is off the end of a hallway. The first door into the room, before the kitchenette, opens to a single unisex restroom. The door after kitchenette opens to a storage closet. The door next to the sofa leads to the warehouse.

Client problem:

Current setup makes it difficult to hold meetings: Noise from this room travels down the hallway and into the office space making it hard to work. Staff needs to be able to access restroom and warehouse doors at all times causing disruption during meetings.

Wants:

Client requests an updated look for conference area including a flat screen television for long distance conference calls and a credenza for storage.

Create an area for conference table which will provide more privacy, diminish sound carry, allow enough room for hand truck maneuvering.

Remove stove, install microwave oven and double stainless steel sinks.

Resolution:

I recommend all walls be finished gypsum (sheetrock) and painted. Existing carpeting will be changed to a carpet tile with a pattern.

I moved the conference area to the bottom left and walled it off with four-and-a-half-inch partition walls with sound proofing insulation. Entrance door is the standard ADA 36 inches wide. Flat screen television is wall mounted above the credenza and the conference table has recommended circulation on both the south and east wall. My reason for the extra circulation space on the north wall is that if someone was using a wheelchair they would then have enough space to turn around to view the television or exit the room.

I made circulation space of 48 inches between the warehouse door and the wall of the conference room for easy maneuvering of a hand truck.

For the kitchenette, I recommended an upper cabinet, under mounted microwave to free up counter space for additional appliance and food prep space. I was able to fit a double stainless steel kitchen sink in a 48 inches wide base cabinet leaving space for a 33 inches wide base cabinet and a standard size refrigerator.
